Emotions after a Stroke

Many stroke survivors find it harder to control their emotions following their stroke. This is called Emotionalism. You can get help to understand and manage this.

This page shares some information from the Stroke Association to help you. More information is available on their website: click here.

What are the signs of Emotionalism?

  • Crying or laughing for no reason

  • Expressing your emotions more strongly than you actually feel them

  • Feeling like you have no control over your emotions

  • Having emotions that seem out of place - like laughing at something inappropriate or swearing when you didn’t before
